NOT a 12 week scan!

So you’re pregnant… such an exciting and scary time… full of waiting and more waiting and more waiting. Early on you get told that the first trimester is risky and it is best (I totally disagree!) to not tell too many people about your happy little news until you have your 12 week scan

So there it is in your brain… 12 weeks… and if you are anything like me it gets a subtle but clear mark in your diary. You are looking forward to seeing your future for the first time…

BUT…

It’s NOT a 12 week scan!

Your first ultrasound scan (also called the dating scan) can take place any time between 11 and 15 weeks!!!

For those of us desperate to have the reassurance… seeing is believing! Up to three more anxious weeks of waiting on top of the already excruciating 12 week wait is too much to bear. Especially when you have 12 weeks in your head.

My scan is one day short of 14 weeks. Hubby is ever the optimist and says it’s 13 and a half but I know better!

Hopefully this little blog post will help others to know what to expect in more realistic terms and to not get too hung up on the so called “12 week scan”.

Here is the schedule of tests, checks and appointments from my maternity care pack, which you get at your booking in appointment… this is for care in West Sussex.

  3. Oh this has brought back such memories – my ’12 week’ scan wasn’t until 15 weeks or so and it was excruciating waiting! I wish I’d have been able to read this when I was pregant. Send so much love to you and thank you for linking up to #dreamteam xxx

Yup I was 14 weeks before I had my scan as there was a problem with the midwife at my doctors! She didn’t refer me!!! All I did was laugh throughout my scan as it was a mixture of nerves, excitement and needing a wee 😂😂 it’s made it all seem worth it the moment I saw the baby xxx
