Wet, wet and wetter!

So here I am in the second trimester and over the last six weeks I’ve been feeling rather um… damp… down there! Sorry if too much info… don’t read on!

I mentioned it to my midwife and she said is it wee? To which I replied… “probably?” …but really I wasn’t at all sure and I didn’t really want anyone poking around either so just beetled off feeling embarrassed.

I’ve been thinking that my core and pelvic floor aren’t up to scratch so pretty much jumped straight to the conclusion that I was doomed to incontinence. I’ve been going to ante-natal Pilates which is amazing but quite often feeling that I wasn’t doing it right, as it felt like I was squeezing wee out not holding it in!!!

So I started wearing panty liners and accepting it. I went to the loo very frequently and often just a trickle of wee was ready despite feeling like I was going to pop.

But the more I’ve been thinking about it… I actually think it’s a combination of things…

Often it doesn’t have that “ammonia” smell we associate with pee. It feels more like the “pre-sex readiness” without the feeling sexy or even wanting sex! I think I’m just making lots of extra lubrication and that’s why no matter how much I tense up those pelvic floor muscles (making my tummy and ligaments hurt so much too) I’m never going to stop that “flow.” It is healthy and helpful to keep everything “clean” down there even if it doesn’t feel clean or pleasant.

I’m also significantly hotter than usual and a bit sweaty when wearing tight fitting trousers such as maternity leggings. Another factor in the soggy knicker problem!

So I’ve chilled out a bit… I’m trying not to go to the loo for a wee unless I’m sure I need to actually go. I read somewhere (ok on google!) that going when you don’t need to can make things worse. If I’m going out I wear liners so I don’t worry and focus on it rather than enjoying being out. Plus I’m not wearing tight fitting clothes at home if I can help it – getting in practice for the postnatal PJ days.

All of the above has helped me to reduce the worry and also seems to be working!

I’m also promising myself that I’ll do as much of the ante-natal Pilates routine as I can remember… aiming low to start… once a week in between the classes… wish me luck!!

      1. No, I think itโ€™s good to talk about these things. I draw cartoons about mental illness which are often quite raw too. If youโ€™d like to look, itโ€™s http://www.luthienthegreen.wordpress.com ๐Ÿ˜Š
